About Amelia
My name is Amelia MacDougall Fleming (she/her), and Coppice Tree Hooking is my rug hooking studio. I’m based in Rockland, Maine, but am originally from the Tantramar region of the Canadian Maritimes—on the unceded lands of the Mi’kmaw Nation. Tantramar comes from an old French term that loosely translates to “the sound of bird chatter.” Raised by the marsh, both locationally and relationally, my work is rooted in the natural world.
I use locally sourced wool and worn-to-shreds farming clothes, materials that carry stories of both people and animals. My rugs are meant to be seen, touched, walked on, and passed down to grandchildren, existing as some of ties that bind function, art, and domesticity.
If you would like to commission a piece, buy a rug, talk shop, or just want to say hello, please do not hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
