My name is Amelia MacDougall (she/her), and Coppice Tree Hooking is my rug hooking studio. I’m based in Rockland, Maine, but am originally from the Tantramar region of the Canadian Maritimes on the unceded lands of the Mi’kmaw Nation. ‘Tantramar’ comes from an old French term that (loosely) translates to “the sound of bird chatter.” Raised by the marsh, both locationally and relationally, my work is rooted in the natural world.

I use materials that carry stories of both people and animals, like wool and worn-to-shreds farming clothes. My rugs are meant to be seen, touched, walked on, and passed down to grandchildren, working as some of ties that bind function, art, and domesticity.
